Covergirl VoxBox Review!

Influenster generously sent me this Covergirl sponsored VoxBox to test their all new products!

I got their Plumify mascara!

The Oh Sugar tinted lip balm in Caramel 3

And their TruNaked palette in Roses said to be comparable to Urban Decays Naked Palettes!

First I tried the #Plumify mascara. Although it made a difference as you can see below, it did not amaze me compared to other drugstore brands. The handle was really hard for me to hold. And the brush didn't grasp my lashes and too much product got on it creating a messy situation! I'm keeping it in my purse as my emergency mascara though! Believe it or not I forget to wear mascara too often!

In the above photo I also have on the Ph Sugar tinted lip balm in Caramel 3. It had enough pigment in it to cover my busted chapped lips but still looked natural which I liked for what this product was (from my understanding). It was just moisturizing enough and not too oily which was nice!

Next I swatched the eye shadow palette. Unfortunately I don't have any UD Naked palettes currently in either of my kits as I only purchased the original early in my kit and used it all up! But that being said I am very familiar with that quality. I was impressed by the pigmentation without primer but I did not like how powdery the shadows were. The powdery texture indicates to me that application can be tricky and you need a primer with pigment to it such as a MAC paint pot in Soft Ochre or UD original primer potion with NYC jumbo pencil in Milk over it. All shadows need primer in my opinion but the powdery texture of this to me warrants extra care.  Use a very dense shading brush to pack on the color!

This is definitely not up to par with Urban Decay's Naked series! You can make it work though!

Thank you again Influenster and Covergirl for sending me these to try and giving me my first Covergirl experience!

All About False Lashes

I love false lashes. They are a beautiful enhancement to bring out the beauty of a woman's eyes. They have grown in popularity in recent months & brands boast about how theirs can be used and reused up to 25 times, and they charge you $30 for mink, fox, synthetic and even some human hair lashes! In reality, unless you're going to dedicate the time to clean, prep, disinfect and store lashes to be reused it's not worth it in my opinion!

All About Falsies:
Lashes are meant to enhance your eyes natural shape that you already have. So not all styles will look good on all eye shapes and you do want them to look natural. Although we are exaggerating our features by wearing them, we want people to think we've got it like that! We also want them to adhere and blend in flawlessly to our natural lashes.

Lashes need to be tailored to fit properly so I always custom cut, fit and style my clients lashes. sometimes I can get away with not cutting lashes but that's rare!

Types of Falsies that are trending:

Mink & Fox Hair Lashes: I love animals, so anything that involves animal hair is a big fat no-no to me in general. There is no reason to wear a bushy mink or fox strip on your lashes. Although it mimics human hair, it's not human hair, and looks fake. MAC lashes although pretty they are typically a mix of fox and mink hair (unless labelled)!

Synthetic Hair Lashes: Synthetic hair lashes are okay, but look synthetic and plasticy depending on the brand. Some brands will mix the synthetic hairs with human hairs. It's the same concept as a synthetic hair weave for your head.. it won't style properly and look false.

100% Human Hair Lashes are the way to go! Not only is the hair type similar to your natural lashes but they're lighter in weight than the other options. One of my top concerns from clients is the heavy feeling on their eyelids although you forget about them after a few minutes. You want them to look like they're yours! Many random brands at the drug store are human hair, so as long as the band is thin and it says 100% human hair go for it!

Why I Don't Splurge on Lashes:

I refuse to spend more than $9 on a pair of falsies. I never reuse because I personally feel it's unhygienic. I don't wear lashes often; only business or special occasion purposes so for a one time deal it's not necessary to spend more than $2! I only wear Lilly Lashes for business purposes, otherwise Ardell, Red Cherry and Miss Adoro are my go-tos. The quality of these brands are soooo similar. Lilly Lashes are higher quality and more durable, however if we put all of these side to side in the same style you would never know which was which. If you insist on reusing lashes then Lilly Lashes human hair line is the way to go of my choices.

Choice False Lash Brands & Pricing:

Ardell ~$5 www.ladymoss.com
Red Cherry ~$3 www.ladymoss.com
Miss Adoro ~$2 www.ladymoss.com
Lilly Lashes $9 www.lillylashes.com

Wearing falsies is fun, they make us feel glamorous and fierce! Why restrict yourself to a few pairs of lashes that you reuse and become bored when there are 100s of styles that you can play with? I love creating different looks with lashes: I'll cut, trim, and layer pieces of lashes or stack full pairs of lashes to create a specific lash look. I wouldn't be able to do that if I was planning on reusing them! I surely wouldn't spend $30 on lashes to cut them up!

Tips About Wearing False Lashes:

Everyone's eyes are different, a lot of brands make their bands really long so that they can be cut to fit your eye so always measure them against your eye lid first, if it goes past where your natural lashes begin and end in most cases that's where you should cut them to fit! I like to start my lashes farther away from my tearduct, and often place them on the outer 2/3 of my eye instead of my full lash line. I do this because the inner corner typically has the least bit of natural lash & bands lift the easiest here when we blink. To keep my lashes from falling off from the inner corner I start them where my lashes are naturally the fullest!

If you do not have natural lashes or they are thinning:

Measure the lashes by holding them up to your eye and make sure that they are in a comfortable spot. Place them as close and comfortably to where your lash line would be and not too close to your tearduct or outer corner!

In this case, reusing is not a bad idea at all, and I would suggest it especially if you will use them daily! I would not suggest stacking multiple pairs or anything thick and heavy. Lilly Lashes human hair would be great for you, because of their high quality and durability!

50 Shades of Hot Pink.. Or 7.

Okay more like 7 but hot pink lipsticks have been giving me LIFE like no other. Honestly when Candy Yum Yum arrived on the scene I was sooo nervous to try it out.. My silly self decided to wear it for a color pop theme photoshoot!! I felt soo obnoxious but once I saw my pictures in it I was instantly obsessed! Hot pink lipstick can look amazing on any skin tone it's just about finding the right shades and learning how to blend them with lip liners. Keep the rest of your makeup neutral and complimentary to the shade of pink and of course your outfit! Below are pictures of myself in these lippies & a few different looks I have rocked in them oh of course with a list of the ones I'm featuring!

MAC Kelly Yum Yum with a light pink smokey eye and lined with MAC Prolongwear Lip Liner in Shock Value
MAC Kelly Yum Yum with MAC Magenta Lip Liner.
MAC Kelly Yum Yum can be with smokey eyes day or night or with a simple contour and eyeliner! It goes on sayin/glossy but it staiiinnnssss hunny. And when I say stains I mean like into the next day and you don't need to reapply throughout the day unless you want to maintain the glossy look.

Both pictures have Countessa Flourescent by LimeCrime with MAC Shock Value lip liner blended in with it. This formula to me was a bit difficult to handle.. It's drying and it's application wasn't smooth, it stains into the next day but that doesn't do it for me. My remedy to all this is to 1. Not wear it on my 12+ hour days and 2. Line and fill in my lips with Shock Value, apply Countessa Flourescent, then go back in with that Shock Value and blend hunny! 3. As with any drying lipstick moisturize before application and exfoliate before and after.

Another LimeCrime lippie the Pink Velvet - Velvetinne liquid lipstick. No liner needed but darn is this thing drying!!! Definitely moisturize your lips and exfoliate before and after use! This stains as well however that stain is pretty easily exfoliated away.. my issue with this lip color was that I had to apply, let it set, apply again, let it set and maybe go back it because it kinda cracks/doesn't fill in your lips all the way because it's so watery. Now I don't have anything against liquid lipsticks because Stilas are phenomenal but this formula is just too watery. This is definitely a short event lip color also not on my list for 12+ hour days.

MAC Magenta with Stila Betsey on top!

Stila Cosmetics Betsey with an everyday eyeliner with an added pop of aqua blue! This baby is my Candy Yum Yum substitute for a long day, my added gloss to Candy Yum Yum or my go to for a quick lippie that needs no lining and much like the Kelly Yum Yum stains which is great to me because after the lovely gloss like textures fades away I'm still left with a gorgeous stain! This is a lot more glossy than Kelly Yum Yum and has a tingly, minty hint to it. It's super moisturizing which I loveeee!

Plain old MAC Candy Yum Yum with MAC Magenta lip liner. This is a beautiful color, it stains but it's on the drying side as well. So follow the above instructions for how to manage a drying lip color and rock that lip color!

1. MAC Kelly Yum Yum from the MAC Osbournes Collection 2014
2. Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Betsey
3. LimeCrime Countessa Flourescent Matte Lipstick
4. LimeCrime Velvetinne Liquid Matte Lipstick in Pink Velvet
5. MAC Candy Yum Yum
6. MAC Prolongwear Lip Liner in Shock Value
7. MAC Lip Liner in Magenta

#BrownGirlProblems meet Makeup Shopping

Who else struggles with finding BB creams, foundations, concealors that match medium skintones with  yellow/olive undertones?! Every company out there has an overabundance of pink and beige undertones but few or no yellow undertones! I have yet to find a BB cream that fits my oily-combo skin with a medium-yellow skin tone! I can't find a perfect powder foundation match--it's always a bit off! Talk about stressful!

Seriously there is not enough love from our beloved cosmetics companies for our olive tan skin! MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC35 is my perfect skin match, NARS Punjab in the Sheer glow or Sheer matte liquids are a close second.. Lancome has some close matches and so does Make Up For Ever.. and that's kinda it! Powder I'm using 127 in MUFE because any MAC powder I have tried magically turns me darker or red after the day has passed. The struggle is real honey!

My goal is to blog about #browngirlmakeupproblems every now and then and give our struggle a shout out when I do product reviews and swatches because honestly.. I can't trust 97% of beauty bloggers swatches on products because my skintone is so different from theirs! I lovee to check out swatches for days on Instagram but rarely can I find a swatch that can help me make a purchase!

Let me know of any questions related to #browngirlmakeupproblems or makeup problems in general.. I am a renowned color matching queen in my area.. my expertise does not discriminate!

You can find me on Facebook, like my page and send me messages at www.facebook.com/FacePlaybyJasmin, Tweet me @FacePlayxJasmin or Instagram me @FacePlayxJasmin or leave a comment below my pretties!
